Last Saturday, April 10, my friends Brent, Brandy, and Sam went hiking in Cuyahoga National Park. We also took Spikers, their dog. He was a trooper for being so little, and didn't hesitate crossing over streams like I did! Short post here, mainly to share the pictures. Will update again soon!

It's been a while since I updated, and trust me, there will be more frequent updates when I get out to Yellowstone for the summer.
Sam and I wanted to try Secor Metropark today. It really can't be considered hiking, but getting outside and enjoying the weather is still great. I took my camera just in case I saw anything unusual. The first thing I noticed was how flooded the park was. We weren't able to get to the majority of the park because of high water, so that really hindered my ability to go out and get some great pictures. Because of all the water, we decided to go back to the Nature Center, eat lunch, and go to REI in Ann Arbor. REI is a store that specializes in hiking, backpacking, and climbing. I needed some hiking pants so I picked up some Sahara Convertible Pants. I'll post my review of them after doing some hiking tomorrow.
Like always, pictures from today:

Oak Openings Hiking
The weather was fantastic today! It made for a great day of hiking out at Oak Openings with Sam. We started out at about 8:30am, and took a 30 minute break at 11:30 for lunch. We got back to the car at 3:20pm. So, we figured it to be a 17 mile hike in about 6 hours and 20 minutes if you don't count the lunch break. Not bad, just under 3 miles an hour.
Yesterday I picked up some Merrell MOAB GRX hiking boots...
I was sort of concerned about wearing them for today's hike because I didn't get a chance to break them in. It looks like wearing them anyways was a good choice! I had no problems at all. My feet stayed dry thanks to the Goretex, and I was comfortable the whole day.
I took the pictures from today and put them in the slideshow below:

First Post
Well, I am just getting this blog started. There is still a lot of work to do to get everything how I want it. I do have to get up in 6 hours though, because I am going on a 17 mile hike in Oak Openings Park tomorrow. So, I will make this first post a short one. I will also go back in time and add a slideshow from the Winter Solstice last year.
Sam, John, and I decided we would get our taste of winter camping by going to Mary Jane Thurston Park in Grand Rapids, OH. We had a late start, not getting to our site until about 4pm. Since it was the shortest day of the year, we didn't have much light to work with. It was still quite enjoyable, and I was more than warm enough.
